Default WEEKLY THEME GALLERY 20/4/11 "PARROTS OF AUSTRALIA"

Thought we'd go with a general species family theme this week so see what you can dig up from your back files. If nothing else, I know this weeks theme will be colourful
A quick mention should go to Don Kimball as well who has been active on here for some time and has just completed his DVD on the parrots of Australia. Send Don a PM if you are interested in purchasing the set.

This is one from a long way back, 2006 in fact. Taken with my good old Panasonic, this bird was defending a hollow it had nearby.

I've posted this image before, but don't have much else in the way of parrots - we don't get a very wide selection here in the Whitsundays apart from plague proportions of rainbow lorikeets

My favourite image of this species, except for the BG which could have been a different colour!

Female Eclectus Parrot (Eclectus roratus) Photographed in Iron Range NP, 2/12/2009
It was not breeding season, but apparently females stay at their hollows to defend them from competitors (other females) for most of the year, they rely on multiple males to feed them.
    Nikon D300, 300mm f4, 1.4TC, decent crop.

    Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo. (Calyptorhynchus banksii)
Very trusting RTBs sitting in a Cyclone Yasi blasted tree just outside the Townsville Towncommon gate. 12/02/11, 11.30 am, very harsh light.
