Default WEEKLY THEME GALLERY 17/10/10 "FOLLOW THAT SWALLOW"

Great to see all of your bird in habitat shots last week, some great images that combined the subject and its surroundings. This week we pay homage to the Swallows and allies (Swifts, Woodswallows, Martins etc). One of my favourite groups of birds. They are, on the most part, quite trusting and I will always stop to take photos of a group of these birds...if only to have them flying around me at top speeds

    Welcome Swallow (Hirundo neoxena)

This bird was taking a rest from building its mud nest (you can see the mud on its beak).

Excellent theme Paul. I'm looking forward to seeing some Woodswallow images. I wish I had more, but unfortunately I dont get to see them all that often.

I enjoy walking through the local ovals and having the Welcome Swallows follow and circle me in hope I kick up some insects for them too.

    White-breasted Woodswallow
We loved the way these birds gathered on power lines & snuggled up to each other.
A new tick for us on our recent Cairns trip & a beautiful species of Woodswallow.

    Welcome Swallow
I'm not a big fan of taking shots of birds at their nests. This one was taken at
The Briars, Mt Martha Vic. They were nesting under the veranda of the Visitors Centre.
I was happy to see Mum & Dad still feeding their chicks before I left them in peace.

Welcome swallow, it had been raining very hard and this rather large pool had formed. There was about 20 swallows zooming around hitting the water and grabbing insects on the wing. Not real sharp, hard to get on the wing! Canon 7d ISO 400 f5 1/500 70-300mm. Jack.

Ok, I will change things up a bit and post something other than a Welcome Swallow

This was taken on Sunday, very much a quick snapshot as I usually keep driving past swallows thinking I have plenty of time to photograph them at a later date - the later date never comes though!

I don't think anyone has posted a Black-faced Woodswallow yet. Taken at Bowra about a month ago.

Fairy Martin; not the crispist image, but it's the best I have. Most people will recogise the bg, the dam/waterhole at the famous Bowra homestead.
