Default WEEKLY THEME GALLERY 3/10/10 "FLIGHT"

Thanks to all contributors in last weeks "Deep Blue Sea" gallery. The ocean always makes for a nice backdrop.
After just getting on a plane again for the first time in 20 odd years I thought that I'd have to make this weeks theme about the mastery of flight.
Any image of a bird in flight is up for inclusion so...let me declare you....ready for take off

Black-shouldered Kite (juvenile). This juvenile was a part of a large family group that I watched for a few days and was quickly learning the art of hunting. Unfortunately the elements were against me when I took this image with the sun beginning to set in the west but the wind out of the south-east.
I actually tried to get a shot with a rim-lighting effect but failed miserably.

    1/4000, f/6.3, ISO 400
    Cheers,
    Geoff

I was very annoyed at myself for not seeing two Tree Martins that were perched at shoulder height a short distance in front of me. I saw the first take off and only managed to squeeze off this shot of the second one as it followed the first. 50% crop, noise reduction, blur, sharpen, levels, cloned out a branch from the right. 550D 55-250IS @250mm, 1/800sec, f/5.6, ISO 400. I put this on my trip report, but I don't think we can miss a photo of the heaviest flying bird in Aus (I think that statistic is correct )
