Default WEEKLY THEME GALLERY 19/9/10 "GULLS AND TERNS"

Some interesting images of birds and cars last week. "Most Suitable" award goes to GeoffG for his image of a Scrubwren inside a car
This week its all about our Gull and Tern friends. Should be a bumper gallery, even if we all put in an image of a Silver Gull each I won't mind so there is no excuse for not contributing this week :ugeek: And if you have'nt got a single image of a Silver Gull.......GO SIT IN THE CORNER AND HAVE A GOOD HARD THINK ABOUT YOURSELF  PULL YOUR SOCKS UP :P

    Kelp Gull (Larus dominicanus)

This was taken about three years ago in Salamanca, Hobart. The Pacific and Kelp gulls had made a habit of scavenging through the fishermens nets when they left them on the docks for repair.

White-fronted Tern taken with EOS 40D and 100-400MM IS USM lens

I find terns a very difficult group of birds to photograph well - whether on the beach or in flight - let alone ID some of them!!!

    cheers

    Caspian Tern (Hydroprogne caspia)
Photo taken at Peaceful Bay, WA it was an amazing sight; Silver Gulls, Caspian and Crested Terns feeding on fish attracted to the maggots feeding on the decaying kelp.

Kelp Gull (Larus dominicanus) photographed during a Wollongong Pelagic, they were following the boat close to shore. I tried to capture one calling; unfortunately they were to close and I couldn't fit the whole bird in.

Not the best shot of a Silver Gull, but one legged as promised. Taken not far from the fish and chip shop on the Strand Townsville, fairly sure the only fish this guy feeds on are accompanied by chips

Very lucky theme for me this week (I only got an image for last weeks car theme on saturday when I was away, but nevermind). Was at the a week ago with a friend and came across this pacific gull who was kind enough to take off towards us. Taken at Semaphore Beach, SA, harsh light during the middle of the day. I have another couple of the same bird that I like, but I might post those in the image gallery :P

I know someone will probably want to post the Longy Noddy, but I thought it would be intersting to show a different perspective - a Heron Island perspective! This was taken when I was 6 (I think ), and is symbolic of every single tree on Heron Island - almost too many Black Noddies

... and another Noddy, this time a Common (unfortunately not a Lesser ), this one taken on Lord Howe when I was 7. Unfortunately, I don't remember this particular bird, so it's not ticked

Don't have many images of seabirds at all. Here's one I do have, a Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybridus).
