    Default Pied Kingfisher diving

    Species
    Common Name Pied Kingfisher
    Scientific Name Ceryle rudis

    Date- 9 July 2017

Location- Eagle Camp, Okavango Delta, Botswana

    Camera Details
    Brand/Model- Olympus E-m1 mkii
    Lens- Leica DG 100-400 f4-6.3 @400mm

    Camera Settings
    ISO- 800
    F-Stop- f/6.3
    Shutter Speed- 1/4000
    Exposure Bias/Metering/Flash- --

    Technique- Handheld from tinny

    Attraction Aides-

Notes This Pied Kingfisher had just spotted something and was into his dive though probably not yet at full clip. Given the speed that these guys move, this is more by good luck than anything else and it is not super sharp though it is full frame There is no doubt in my mind that the Olympus 300mm F4 (as used the the Darter BIF image) produces superior images to this with the Leica especially out at 300mm+ in the micro 4/3 (600mm 35mm equivalent) Unfortunately a fixed prime is a little limiting

Lovely action image Alec, no harm having a little wing blur, body and tail are sharp enough.

Nice one Alec - saw these on the Chobe River - great birds - and this a well captured BIF!

That little bit of blur really gives a sense of motion

A knockout, Alec! You're killing me with these excellent images from Africa. Keep 'em coming.
    Cheers,

These are quite hard to photograph in Southern Africa, they seem quite skittish when I was in South Africa
