Notes- Apologies for not being around much lately everyone. Been a busy month - away for a couple of weeks driving out to Alice Springs for our photography workshop, then back for a few days before going on a family holiday up to Woody Head near Iluka.
Took this one on the second last day right near camp.
Watched a pair of wattlebirds go about their business in this tree for a while hoping one would sit a bit more in the open.
Then this happened! Hopped up to the top branch and tried to catch bugs! At the time I just thought it was stretching its wings weirdly - only later realised there were insects in the image too!
    Cheers, Dave

Woody head , what a great camp spot . A very nice bit of coastal heath land around that area . Beautiful light and interesting feeding activity captured . Did you get the ground parrots or emu wrens while there ? You would have jagged some classic North coast weather while up here . Lovely photo David .
    Regards Woody .

Great capture - I guess the wings are its way of balancing and preparation in case it over stretches for those bugs !! Just listened to the call of the Little Wattlebird, it is as melodic as my backyard Red's .... not

    Thanks Woody!
Didn't get to explore much at all beyond the campground to be honest. After having been away for a couple of weeks without the family I needed to make up for it! I did get to Iluka Reserve for White-eared Monarch though
Where is the closest heath to Woody Head? All littoral rainforest along the coast where we were. Weather wasn't too bad - only rained one night/morning. Pretty windy though

Great shot, love the hunting pose. I wonder if it managed to catch any, looks difficult to catch such tiny insects.

Such a wonderful capture David, quite animated and appealing to me. Really enjoyed your action shots of late.

Being able to see the insects really completes the story with this one Dave. Lovely light and great composition as well. A beauty, Wilson
