Default WEEKLY THEME GALLERY 8/8/10 "NESTING/BREEDING BIRDS"

An awesome collection of artistically lit images last week. I enjoy getting all you guys and girls to think outside the box a bit and try something different so well done for rising to the challenge
This week is all about breeding and nesting birds to coincide with what looks like the start (early ) of the breeding season for most birds.
It is also my sons 3rd Birthday today so the theme fits nicely with my home life too
Look forward to seeing all the nests, baby birds etc. Paul 8-)

Purple Swamphen chick at Hasties Swamp. It's lucky they grow into those feet.

Nothing too fancy here, but these guys were in the park on our street a couple days ago. Unfortunately, I haven't seen them for 2 days now and I'm fearing that something may have happened to the chicks and the adults moved on. Hopefully I see them again soon.

Part of Red-capped Plover breeding/nesting is the protection of young. This is an oldie of mine (sigma 135-400mm) of a parent faking an injury to lure me away from their young.

BTW I saw two brand new baby RCP today at Stockton Sandspit so Spring has definitely sprung early.

Brown-backed Honey-eater building a nest just outside my kitchen window a few years back. About half way through, sitting in nest to shape it, maybe. I think this was a 'test' build as no sign of any action after it was finished.

OK, I'll go again Not many posts this topic, has the discussion on the rights and wrongs of taking picture at the nest made everyone think twice about posting or do few of you have pictures to suite? All of mine (except the garden shots) are of chance findings, a quick snap and move on, never lingering to scare the bird off the nest or staying long enough to attract un-wanted attention from undesirables (both human and preditors).
This one was right next to a path leading to the WCs at the Pallarenda Conservation Park, Townsville.
