Default WEEKLY THEME GALLERY 18/7/10 "WORSE FOR WEAR"

Well done on all the wing stretches last week. Another bumper gallery with 3 pages of images
This week I want to see your worst dressed bird I'm sure you've all got an unkempt looking bird or two in your back files so have a hunt and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Even a bird in an unflattering pose is acceptable

Whistling Kites (Haliastur sprenurus) look pretty scraggily at the best of times but this one has to take the cake. This shot is almost full frame so looks like the messy ones are pretty tame too.

This male White-winged Fairy-wren photographed at Inglewood, Queensland was a scruffy individual - probably a sub adult? cheers David Taylor

This young osprey was learning to dive for fish. Got this one after an attempt to fish and he came home all soggy and wet.

SCC (I think... ). taken back in 04, stayed on Magnetic Island for a week and this guy seemed very happy with a small flock of SCCs that appeared each day for a feed of seeds put out by a local island resident, none the others showed signs of feather loss.

Had to dig deep in the hard drive for this; probably the only image I have that would fit this theme. This was taken at a friend's house who is lucky enough to live near a rainforest, so gets visited by a large array of birds. This guy of course is up there with the most common, rainforest or not

They have a water bowl on the balcony which is visited frequently by birds, most often the dusky which dont play nice with other HE; or any bird for that matter! Dusky Honeyeater (Myzomela obscura)

Actually, I lied. I have another image that fits the theme and I dont think you can get much worse for wear than this!

This poor guy was taken the morning after Cyclone Ului hit the Whitsundays. Must have been roosting in a tree which was ripped out of the ground. I wonder how many birds died in the event? Most sense what is coming and get out of the place I think, so hopefully not many.
