Default WEEKLY THEME GALLERY 20/6/10 "FEATHERS AND THE WEATHER"

Had a few of you stumped with last weeks theme but we got quite a good gallery of people and birds in the end This week is all about the weather and how it effects our feathered friends. Any shot that has an element of the weather in it can be entered. Windblown birds, rain drenched birds, birds in fog, birds in the blazing sun.....be creative if you like and tell us about the conditions the shot was taken in

Silver Gull (Larus novaehollandiae) and rainbow burst, Williamstown, VIC

Took this photo the other day just before a storm on Williamstown Beach, noticed the small rainbow burst created by the last rays of the sun on the horizon and frantically tried to capture a bird in the frame with it.

Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus) in fog, Point Wilson, VIC

This was taken one cold and foggy morning at Point Wilson on the edge of the Werribee treatment plant. Point Wilson will gather fog on nearly any still winter morning and sometimes the sun breaks through creating an amazing atmosphere but not on this particular morning which was a blue as you could imagine. Would have liked a more distinct silhouette here but thought it still worked with the birds wings flat like this.

    Lewin's Honeyeater.

Taken at O'Reilly's (Lamington NP) earlier this year. From this and ed's pair of shots, liquid sunshine seems to be the norm in Queensland.
    Cheers,

I posted this in the sightings thread a while back. White-faced Heron in heavy fog. This was taken on a very cold frosty morning, with numb hands

This one probably just scrapes in the theme, with it's whole ONE drop of rain. She's a little windswept though.
