Default WEEKLY THEME GALLERY 9/5/10 "FEATHERED FERALS"

Thank you so much everybody for posting all your wader shots last week. Some great shots on there but just made me miss the little brown jobs even more
This week we salute the "feathered ferals". I guess its not really their fault that they are here but ours really, we can't really curse a problem that is of our own making can we. So this week we'll show them a bit of respect and try and show them in a nicer light.
Tell us about your favourite feral in the discussion page if you like.

    Spotted Turtle-Dove (Streptopelia chinensis)

Not that common around Townsville, but just up the hi-way (160klm) at Cardwell they are everywhere.

This is the best I can do for introduced species. They're not high on my list of target species.

    My addition:

    Mallard Duck
    Anas platyrhynchos
This is one of not many pure Mallards left in Australia, I'd imagine. I don't know many places where they aren't somepart Black Duck...

    European Starling - Sturnus vulgaris
    Rock Pigeon - Columba livia

I just noticed that I don't have many photos of feral species, I think I need to try more. This one was taken in Centennial Park where you can find both pigeons and starlings with mynas.

    Laughing Dove - Stigmatopelia senegalensis

Ok ok, don't panic, they are not going to produce to largest feral flock, at least not yet

Photo was taken in Turkey and they are also been introduced there. I didn't see any photo of this bird on this forum ever so I wanted to share.
