    Default Is this saveable???

On my last day on Lord Howe, in January, I spotted a sweet interaction between a family of White Terns.
One bird flew in with a fish, to give to it's chick. However, after a minute in which the chick looked balefully at its parent ("can't you cut it up Muuuum?" ), the parent gave up, and jut gave it to its mate, who swallowed it.

Unfortunately, the BG was a white cloud
And white on white is not good...

This shot is my favourite of the ones I was able to take. I had a play on PSE, but couln't do much. I am not skilled with PSE, and I know most on this forum will be much better than me. Could anyone suggest a way to save this, or could they take the time to do a mock up?

It has been cropped and resized. If anyone would like the original, just say

Any suggestions/reposts would be much appreciated.

I fixed the brightness a bit, but I don't have photoshop so I can't sharpen it or change the hue.

There is very little that can be done to salvage this. All I've tried to do is to remove the blue haze which I think is referred to as camera abheration(?) and try and add a bit more detail into the bird to make it stand out just a touch from the bg.

Ashy, it's going to be a bit hard doing anything with this shot, assume it's taken with your A720? As the ouput is a jpeg you're quite limited in what you can do before it starts to fall apart.

For the future you might want to consider shooting in Raw. This will give you more flexibility. This application:

    http://chdk.wikia.com/

allows you to load up modified firmware which outputs a Raw file from powershot cameras. Can be a bit fiddly and you need to convert the files to dng format as the raw converters don't recognise them till you do. I did it for my daughter's S3IS and it works quite well apart from the slight clunkiness. For instance you can't delete the Raws in camera, need to hook it up to a PC to delete them.

Ah, thanks Chris, looks like a good idea. It certainly gives a lot more flexibility with poor shots (obvously not this poor)
Thanks to the rest of you for taking the time to fiddle, and try to improve this shot.
