Thread: Crimson Finch (Neochmia phaeton)

    Default Crimson Finch (Neochmia phaeton)

Birding has taken a backseat with the Top End's wet season setting in, however I took this while stormchasing with Jacci last weekend.

    Nothing spectacular but worth posting

Lovely clean shot with nothing but the bird. BG is great and there are no possible distractions.
I love Crimson Finches, and this is a great shot, but I think the red is a little unusual. Is this an accurate reproduction of the bird's colours, or has the processing altered it? The birds I saw last year were always much darker red, like crimson . This looks a little orange.

I agree, reds look a little milky on my screen - otherwise, its a very agreeable picture

I beg to differ, this looks pretty spectacular to my eyes!!! I do agree with the others though, something seems just a little amiss. Might need a contrast boost? A slight tweak would push this one through the roof!

Thanks guys, you're right! Dunno must have been too tired pp'ing and was too blind to see the obscure red.

Here's a repost which looks a bit more realistic

Great shot Willz. I did'nt mind the original actually but know its not an accurate rendition of the colours.
Field guides describe a crimson wash over the back of the females. Now I know what they are talking about
    Superb shot, keep it up.

Great photo of a really nice looking bird. And of course perch and background is very good as it is easy to focus on bird.

Love the repost William! Original looked like too much shadow adjustment or something?
Great pose and perch as Fatih mentioned.
