Default WEEKLY THEME GALLERY 12/2/12 "BIRDS IN (ODD) HABITAT"

Bec suggested we do a birds in habitat theme for this week but I thought we'd mix it up a bit and make it birds captured in odd habitats. Perhaps its a bird in a different environment than you normally find it in or a bird in an interesting setting.

This Sharpie was captured along a beach which isn't all that odd but the foam that had accumulated looked a little like snow so looks a little odd to me

Default Brown Thornbill above the mud

Brown Thornbill (Acanthiza pusilla) Taken several years ago With Canon 1D and 500mm lens with 1.4 teleconverter. The bird is perched on a discarded yogurt container which was stuck in mud with other rubbish at a fast drying out waterhole at Wonthaggi. It was in heavy shadow which I've lightened a bit.

2011 was a ''GOODYEAR'' for this Spotless Crake ( Porzana tabuensis ) at Little Lake Boort Vic. The degaraded habitat didn't seem to be bothering this guy or anyone else for that matter. At the same time on the other side of the road was a Baillon's Crake & 50m up the road was a Spotted Crake. Taken on 25-9-11 with my Nikon D60 & Sigma 150-500mm lens.

I have attached photo of a Little Wattlebird (Anthochaera chrysoptera). He was waiting to jump into a water fountain to have drink. Photo taken at Kingscliff 1-1-2012... Xavier

    Default Osprey (Pandion haliaetus)

Maybe not such an 'odd habitate' for an Osprey, but lots of hardware in this one, why is it I can never find them doing this sort of thing on a tree or rock?

40D (a long and sad tale regarding the 7D, lets just say mine may not have been as weather/liquid sealed as you would hope a camera of this type would be. ) 100-400L @ 400, AP, 1/1250, f8, iso400, cropped and some levels adjusted, sharpened.

Diamond Firetail on a well-pruned rose bush. That's about as odd as I could find
