Default Adding Tags after a thread is created.

I can't see anyway to add tags to a thread once it's been created. I've checked in the Advanced Edit option, but can't find anyway of adding tags.

Is it possible to do add a tag to a thread after the thread has been created, and if not can the option be added?

There's a section for adding tags below the quickreply box at the end of each thread, Mark. No need to edit the thread or anything like that to access it.

Sorry I'm being dumb here but I've always wondered what's the point of tags??
    Cheers, Owen.

Just as you might use keywords with photos as part of your workflow/digital asset management to help organise and locate images, tags can be thought of as keywords for the forum and are similarly used for organising and searching for content.

Tags can help other members find information they're looking for when searching (you can search for specific tags) or you can see the most used tags on the homepage in the side block.

They are probably best used when the tag words added to threads aren't contained in the post itself. For example, when I create a news article for the front page I'll tag it with site news, even though those words may not be contained within the thread itself, searching for site news in the tag field of the search page will find all the threads I've created and tagged with site news.

I also tag all the photo posts I make with the specific location, species name and south australia. You can see HERE how searching for the tag south australia finds all the threads I've created and tagged accordingly.

Thanks for clearing that up Rich.
