Default Fill Flash and Shutter Speed

    Hi all,

I have a 7D and 580 EX II. The faster shutter speed I can obtain is 250, which I believe is the sync limit of this particular flash.

My question is, is there any way to force the shutter speed higher than while shooting in Aperture Priority? Or must I shoot in Manual Mode to achieve this?

    Cheers

Press the third button along from the left to go past max sync speed. Once you go past Max sync speed (1/250) on the 7d you start to loose power from your flash. Jack.

1/250 is the sync limit of the camera body, any faster and you don't get full frame coverage by flash. The flash will show a symbol, H and a lightning bolt or similar when in high speed sync mode. Every little bit faster SS will reduce flash output and limit flash range/ fill ratio. It's often better to drop ISO down to reduce SS unless you really need the SS to stop motion, that way you get more shots in a burst with flash, better range and faster recycle times.
